Doula Support

Support for a Healthy Pregnancy and Birth

What Is a Doula?

A doula is a trained support person who helps during pregnancy, labor, birth, and after your baby is born. Doulas are not medical providers, but they work with your healthcare team to give you information, support, and encouragement.

A doula can:

  • Answer questions about pregnancy, labor, birth, and recovery after birth.
  • Help you stay comfortable during labor and delivery.
  • Offer emotional support and encouragement.
  • Help you understand your options and make informed decisions.
  • Support you in any birth setting, like a hospital, birth center, or at home.
  • Provide guidance and support after your baby is born.
Doula Services at No Extra Cost

Eligible members can get doula support as part of their health plan benefits at no extra cost.

Why Choose a Doula?

A doula can help you feel more confident during your pregnancy and birth experience.

Studies show that doula support may help:

  • Lower the chance of having a cesarean birth (C-section)
  • Shorten labor
  • Reduce the need for some labor medicines, including oxycotin
  • Reduce the use of epidurals for pain relief
  • Increase confidence and satisfaction with the birth experience
